The Constitutional Court has reserved judgment on whether Parliament should institute impeachment proceedings against President Jacob Zuma. The DA, EFF, Cope and the UDM want the court to order National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mmbete to impeach Zuma after he lied to parliament over the Nkandla saga. In March last year, the Constitutional Court ruled that Zuma had failed to uphold the Constitution. Chief justice Mogoeng Mogoeng says the court needs clarity on why it should intervene on Parliament’s alleged inability to hold Zuma to account while not overstepping the separation of powers.
